Rahul describes govt's decision to bring ordinance to protect convicted lawmakers wrong

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi today said the government's decision to bring an ordinance to protect convicted lawmakers is wrong. Observing that no compromise be made to fight corruption, he said that the ordinance should be thrown away. He was talking to reporters in New Delhi this afternoon.

After Rahul Gandhi's comments, Congress spokesperson Ajay Maken said the party is opposed to the ordinance. When asked what the government's next move can be, Maken said the party's view will be supreme.

The developments came a day after President Pranab Mukherjee summoned senior Cabinet ministers Sushilkumar Shinde, Kamal Nath and Kapil Sibal for consultations on the ordinance pending before him for signature.

Earlier, a three-member BJP delegation led by senior party leader L K Advani had a meeting with Mr Mukherjee and submitted a memorandum requesting him not to sign the ordinance and send it back to Cabinet.
