Total area under crops has touched 420 lakh hectares so far in the ongoing rabi season in the country, as against 419 lakh hectares last year. According to an Agriculture ministry release, area under wheat has marginally increased to 183 lakh hectare as against 181 lakh during the previous year. Sowing of coarse cereals and oilseeds has also inched up marginally, while area under rice and pulses is slightly lagging behind. The release added that sowing of rabi crops is progressing well in different parts of the country.
