Quraishi instructs Bihar administration to gear up to tackle any eventuality

The Chief Election Commissioner S. Y. Quraishi has instructed the Bihar administration to gear up to tackle any eventuality and conduct assembly elections in a free and fair manner. While reviewing the election preparedness with DMs and SPs of those districts where poll is to be held, Mr. Quraishi laid stress on preparing a contingency plan to tackle the threat from Maoists in Naxal infested areas of the state. The Chief Election Commissioner S. Y. Quraishi along with two other Commissioners V.S. Sampath and H.S. Brahma are holding review meeting of poll preparedness at Patna for the impeding Assembly elections. The Chief Election Commissioner said that all roads in extremist-hit areas should be satisfied before the polls and vulnerability mapping to identify sensitive pockets should be prepared in advance. He insisted on making approach road plan and communication plan so that poll officials could have better co-ordination during polling day. The Election Commission also directed to keep a close tab on flow of illicit liquor, poll expenditure of candidates and other poll malpractice. The commission took a feedback from DMs about the requirement of force especially Central para military forces for deployment at booths and on patrolling day. The Chief election Commissioner is expected to take a stock of the flood situation in north Bihar and could take a decision on deferment of poll in some constituencies affected by floods.
