Quit India Movement: RS pays homage to martyrs who laid down lives for India's freedom

The Rajya Sabha today paid homage to all those martyrs who laid down their lives and underwent immense sufferings for the country's freedom. Making a reference, Chairman Mohammed Hamid Ansari said 9th of August marks the 74th Anniversary of the historic day on which Mahatma Gandhi launched the Quit India Movement in 1942.<br/><br/>He said the call of Do or Die, given by the Father of the Nation, led to an upsurge of nationalistic sentiments and heralded the attainment of Independence. Mr Ansari said the day is a reminder for cherishing the gift of freedom handed down by those brave men and women and reaffirm the commitment to uphold the sovereignty, integrity, unity and diversity of the country.
