Queen's baton relay crosses various landmarks in national capital

The Queen's baton relay crossed various landmark places in the national capital today. The baton passed through Vijay Chowk, India Gate, Qutab Minar and Lotus temple. It will reach the Games Village tomorrow. The baton will reach at its final destination, Jawahar lal Nehru National Stadium, on Sunday. Elaborate security arrangements are in place for the Queen's Baton Relay. The baton arrived in the capital yesterday and was received by Delhi Lieutenant Governor Tejendra Khanna and Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit at the organising committee headquarters. Meanwhile, at the Games village the flag hoisting and welcome ceremony for the Indian contigent took place place this afternoon. The national flags of the contigents from 16 countries were hoisted yesterday amidst song, dance and celebration during the ongoing team welcome ceremonies at the village. Over 1300 foreign athletes and delegates are expected to check into the games Village today. With this the total number of participating athletes and delegates in the games village will cross more than 7000. The village is buzzing with activity and all athletes are practicing in the Games village for the mega track and field events. All visiting athletes and delegates are happy with the arrangements at the Games Village.The main venue of the Games, Jawahar Lal Nehru stadium is also all set for the grand opening ceremony on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Army will hand over the newly constructed foot over bridge outside the stadium to the authorities today.
