Quality of jobs continues to be a cause of major concern: ILO

After recovery from the economic meltdown, the job growth in Asia particularly in its east is back but the quality of jobs continues to be a cause of major concern. The ILO report released today ahead of World Labour Day says that 45 per cent of the vast productive potential of Asian women remains untapped compared to just 19 per cent of men. The report highlights various facets of job market and brings to the fore the fact that average growth in women employment is just 1.7 per cent which is below average of two per cent at the global level. This, the report says which has been prepared in collaboration with Asian Development Bank is despite a 6.2 per cent average economic growth in the continent as compared to global average of over four per cent. AIR correspondent adds that the report says that there is a window of opportunity to address the systematic gender inequalities and the symptoms thrown up by the global financial crisis
