Officials in Tajikistan say twenty thousand people have been rendered homeless by an earthquake which damaged or destroyed more than a thousand buildings. <br/> <br/>The earthquake with a magnitude of 5.1 on the ritcher scale struck early yesterday in the mountains more than 300 kilometres from the Tajik capital. No casualties have been reported so far as flee their homes when they felt the first tremors. <br/><br/>
