A strong earthquake struck the Hindu Kush region of north-eastern Afghanistan around 12-51 in the night. The tremor with a magnitude of 6.3 on the Richter scale lasted for nearly a minute causing buildings in the capital Kabul to shake. There were no immediate reports of damage from towns and settlements closer to the epicenter, which was 265 kms. north-east of Kabul. The earthquake rocked many parts of Pakistan and several areas in north India, especially Jammu and Kashmir also. MET officials said the tremor jolted Islamabad, Central Punjab province and the tribal belt bordering Afghanistan. State run Pakistan TV reported that northern areas including Pakistan occupied Kashmir also felt the tremors.People were jolted in their sleep by the tremor and rushed out of their homes. MET department said mild tremors were also felt in some parts of national capital Delhi. There were no immediate reports of any casualty or damage from Pakistan or from Northern India also.
