Quake hits northern Indonesia

A strong 6.2-magnitude earthquake struck northern Indonesian waters today but there were no reports of damage and no tsunami warning was issued. According to the US Geological Survey, the quake struck below the sea about 218 kilometres south of Manado, Sulawesi island, just after 1000 GMT.
