Punjab Governor Shivraj Patil has said that it was not the responsibility of the Government alone to provide education to the people, private educational institutes should also contribute in this noble cause. Addressing the first convocation of a private University in Jalandhar, he said the Centre had formulated the Right to Education Act for giving education to all up to 10th standard. Patil said private educational institutes should provide quality education and should not exploit students in the name of education. Over 5,800 students of the university and 2,500 students of private institutes received their diplomas, degrees and medals during the ceremony.Pointing out that the maximum number of girl students have received gold medals at the Convocation, Patil said though their number was less in colleges and universities, the girls had always remained ahead of boys in securing positions. He said a better society could be built by providing more opportunities to girls in education.
