In badminton, Olympic silver medallist P V Sindhu and HS Prannoy entered the quarterfinals of the Indonesia Open in Jakarta today. 

Sindhu celebrated her 23rd birthday with a 21-17, 21-14 victory over Japan's Aya Ohori.  

HS Prannoy eked out a three-game victory over Wang Tzu Wei of Chinese Taipei, defeating him 21-23, 21-15, 21-13 in a men's singles contest. However, Olympic medallist Saina Nehwal lost to fifth seed Chen Yufei.

Sameer Verma also failed, losing to world no 1 Viktor Axelsen of Denmark.
