Former world No. 1 Kidambi Srikanth with two successive points clinched victory in straight games against Lu Guang Zu 21-13,21-19 in the opener in another men's singles match.
Commonwealth Games champion Lakshya Sen has won Round 1 against World No. 11 Lee Zii Jia of Malaysia in men's singles. Ranked 20th in the world, Lakshya triumphed over Lee 21-17, 21-13 in the contest that lasted just 22 minutes. Another Indian Shuttler Priyanshu Rajawat also progressed on the account of a walkover from world No 3 Kunlavut Vitidsarn of Thailand to seal his place in the next round. However, it was curtains for Indian female shuttler Aakarshi Kashyap as she crashed out in the opening round of women's singles losing from An Se young of Korea, 10-21 4-21.
Meanwhile, H S Prannoy will face World Number 16 Angus Ng Ka Long in the second round after defeating World Number 11 Kenta Nishimoto of Japan and the two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu is set to lock horns with Taiwan's Tai Tzu-Ying in the Round of 16 after defeating Gregoria Mariska in the first round in women's singles yesterday. The Tournament began on 13th June and will conclude on 18th of this month.
