In Badminton, PV Sindhu today made a shock exit in the opening round of the Australian Open at Sydney. She lost to Korea's Kim Hyo-min in straight games, 15-21, 19-21. RMV Gurusaidutt also bowed out in the first round. However, Saina Nehwal, Kidambi Srikanth, Sameer Verma and Tanvi Lad progressed to the pre-quarterfinals. While seventh seed Saina breezed past Joy Lai of Australia, 21-10, 21-14, Srikanth defeated Angus Ka Long of Hong Kong, 21-16, 21-12. Sameer edged past Indonesia's Ihsan Mustofa, 22-20, 15-21, 21-15, and Tanvi beat Aussie Tiffany Ho, 18-21, 21-14, 21-11.
