Puri express derails by powerful IED blast, 43 passengers injured

In Assam, four bogies of the Jagannath temple-bound Puri Express derailed, following a powerful IED blast at Bhatkuchi between Rangiya and Ghograpur railway stations at 8.30 on Sunday evening. Railway Police sources on Monday morning said 43 passengers were injured following the derailment.Ten seriously injured passengers have been shifted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital while the rest of the wounded are admitted at Rangiya and Nalbari Civil Hospitals. Most of the passengers were reportedly travelling for pilgrimage at Jagannath temple at Puri.Meanwhile, the North East Frontier Railway authority has taken up repairing of the damaged track on war- footing. All outgoing and incoming trains to Guwahati have been diverted via Goalpara – New Bongaigaon on the South Bank. Seven trains have been cancelled following the accident.The unaffected coaches of of 15640 Guwahati-Puri Express that met with an accident were brought back to Guwahati along with the passengers last night. A special train took the passengers of the affected train from Guwahati to Puri at 3.30 on Monday morning.The anti-talk faction of the banned National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) outfit is suspected to have been behind the blast. Police said the blast created a big crater on the railway track. Army and police have recovered some wires of remote control device used for the blast from the accident site.
