Reiterating the earlier stance of making Punjab a power surplus state, the Deputy Chief Minister, Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal assured that the state will become a power surplus in the next three years.<br/><br/>Speaking to media in Jalandhar, today, Mr. Badal disclosed that the state is planning to construct 28 mini power plants of 10 to 15 MW each to generate 400 MW extra power, which would start functioning by 2010. He said that these power plants will use agriculture residual to generate electricity. In this way Punjab will become the first state to generate power from agriculture waste.<br/><br/>As the state govt. has asked for a N-power plant from the Centre, Mr. Badal said that it’s a bit long process and would take some time. However, he said that Goindwal, Talwandi Sabo and Gidderbaha power plants are under construction whereas another at Rajpura would be started in the near future.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, Mr. Badal when asked about giving another term to Avtar Singh Makkar as SGPC President refused to comment.<br/><br/>Mr. Badal who was in Jalandhar to inaugurate 55th National School Games comprising Handball, Basketball, Hockey and Athletics at Guru Gobind Singh Stadium said the Sports Policy is almost ready and comments/objections of the experts are invited. It will be implemented thereafter by next month. The games will continue till Nov. 28th.<br/><br/>Addressing the gathering he announced to open two Sports Training Insitutes at Jalandhar and Mohali to train youngsters in sports of their own interest.
