Punjab to set up 3037 e-gram Suvidha Centres

Punjab Government has decided to set up 3037 e-gram Suvidha Centres in the villages across the state at a cost of Rs 90 crore. An official spokesman said in Chandigarh that aim of this scheme is to ensure citizen centric services to the people in the rural areas. These e-grams centres would ensure the delivery of basic people friendly services viz delivery of old-age pension, registration of pension for handicapped and widows and disabled persons with an easy access.
He said that these centres had been launched so that the public can avail of the various welfare and income-generating schemes besides various citizen-oriented services without going through a cumbersome process. Presently, a large number of services were being delivered at the Panchayat level manually.
The spokesman further said that the decision has also been taken to revamp Community Policing Resource Centres at the district level and set up 90 Suvidha Centres at the sub-division level as well as 300 police station outreach centres at the police station level. A sum of Rs 27 crore has been approved for this purpose. Punjab would be the first state in the country to implement community policing at such a large scale and in an institutionalised manner. These centres would provide counseling services to resolve disputes related to domestic violence, dowry-related and various other crimes related to women.
