Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab, Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal said the government has set up a high powered cell under the Inspector General of Police, Gupreet Deo, to provide aid to the unfortunate brides deserted by their NRI husbands after marriage. The cell would also provide aid to the youth trapped in other countries, sent fraudulently by travel agents. Speaking to media at Punjab NRI Summit-2011, in Jalandhar on Tuesday, he said that state government has taken seriously the growing practice of NRIs fleeing after marrying Punjabi girls, leaving them in lurch. He also said that the Punjab Government has also set up a committee under the chairmanship of newly appointed Minister for NRI Affairs, Capt. Balbir Singh Bath, to look into the problems faced by Punjabi NRIs back home. The committee would visit all those countries where the Punjabi NRIs are living and would try to solve their problems with the help of Indian Embassies. The committee would start working by June, this year.About the implementation of Illegal Human Trafficking Act as announced by the state govt recently, Badal said that is lying with the President of India for her assent.
