In Punjab, 79 eminent sportspersons will be honoured with prestigious Maharaja Ranjit Singh Award. A decision to this effect was taken by Chief Minister, Prakash Singh Badal while presiding over a meeting of Maharaja Ranjit Singh Award Apex Committee in Chandigarh on Monday.Taking part in the deliberations, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said that the cash prize of Maharaja Ranjit Singh award has been enhanced from Rs one lakh to Rs two lakh from this year and notification has already been issued in this regard. Besides cash prize, the award comprises a scroll, roll of honour and a blazer. He said the award will be given to sportspersons who have brought laurels to the state as well as the country at the international level during the last six years from 2005 to 2010.
