In Punjab, Jalandhar Passport Office has started a Women Grievance Cell to help out those women who have been deserted by their NRI husbands. This is the first of its kind in the country. Addressing a press conference, Passport Officer, Parneet Singh said about 15,000 girls from Doaba region of Punjab consisting of Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala and Nawanshehar districts have been duped by their NRI husbands. Jalandhar has recorded the highest number of such cases.
