Punjab selected for 10 model projects

Planning Commission has selected Punjab as a special state where 8 to 10 special model pilot projects will be started. The aim is to build an infrastructure to produce agro based products for value addition to agriculture produce. A Planning Commission team met senior officials of Punjab Government, Heads of agricultural institutions and industrialists at Chandigarh and discussed modalities to set up the new projects. Technical Advisory Committee on Secondary Agriculture set up by the Commission has decided to treat Punjab as a model state on ushering in the nation's second green revolution.<br/>Consultant to the Planning Commission Dr. DPS Verma said in Chandigarh that yeild of various crops had already attained their peak and now value addition is possible only by processing the farm produce. He said that second Green Revolution is possible only through value addition.<br/>
