Punjab retirement age extension order set aside by HC

Punjab Government has withdrawn its order of 27th January of this year by which one year extension was granted in service to all those employees who were retiring between January 22 to December 31, 2010. The order of the government follows the March 29 judgement of the Punjab and Haryana High setting aside the orders of the Punjab government of January 27. <br/><br/>The withdrawal of the order implies that all those employees who had completed 58 years and were on extension after 22nd January for an year’s period stand relieved from service from yesterday evening. According to an estimate the order will affect around 3000 employees who were on extension. The order has been dispatched to the heads of all departments and other government wings. <br/><br/>Officials were directed to comply with the order strictly and relieve all employees who had opted for an years extension till March 31.<br/>The court while passing the order had stated that it would be effective prospectively only and not take away the benefit already taken by the employee.
