In Punjab, about 77 percent polling is recorded in Monday's state Assembly elections.
Chief Electoral Officer of Punjab Ms. Kusumjit Sidhu said in a press note in Chandigarh that this is the maximum percentage of polling since 1967. During last election of 2007, it was more than 75 percent.
Sangrur district recorded the highest 83 percent turn out and it was lowest in Taran Taran 69 percent.
Guru Harsahai constituency recorded maximum 90 percent turn out while Amritsar West constituency recorded 56 percent.
The Chief Electoral Officer said, except small scuffled there was no violence in the state and polling was peaceful. She thanked the electorate for maintaining peace during polling.
All the electronic voting machines have reached at 56 counting centres set up all over the state for counting of votes on 6th March.
Two tier security will be set up at the counting centre.
In Uttarakhand, around 70 per cent polling was recorded in the State Assembly elections, which sealed the fate of 788 candidates including Chief Minister B C Khanduri and leader of Opposition, Harak Singh Rawat and other prominent leaders of various political parties.
AIR correspondent reports that voting percentage in the state has broken the record. The counting of votes will take place on 6th March.
Deputy Election Commissioner Alok Shukla said in Delhi that the increasing of poll percentage was a result of the poll panel's campaign greater participation for a better democracy.
He said, polling in both states was by and large peaceful and the run-up to the polls saw seizure of large amounts of cash, liquor and drugs meant for influencing the voters.
Meanwhile, in Uttar Pradesh, 59 nominations have been rejected in scrutiny filed for phase three Assembly elections.
Now a total of 1081 candidates are left in fray. February 1 is last date for withdrawal. Nomination process is in full swing for phase four elections as a day is left for it and total of 503 nominations have been filed till now for 56 constituencies.
In 49 constituencies spread over 13 districts from Agra, Aligarh, Kanpur, Jhansi and Chitrakoot Dham divisions a total of 87 nominations have been filed till now for phase five polling on February 23.
AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that all major political parties have roped their senior leaders for campaigning in the state for assembly elections.
