Punjab has achieved the 140 lakh tonne paddy procurement target. This is about eight lakh tonne more than the corresponding period last year. The target was 145 lakh tonne in the last year.This year target has been achieved despite poor rain. Of the total procurement so far, the government agencies have procured 137 lakh 32 thousand tonnes while the rest was procured by the millers. The State Government has set up 1600 procurement centres for purchase of paddy.
