Punjab Polls: EC books candidate for distributing liquor to voters

In Punjab, Election commission booked a congress candidate from Jalandhar Central for distributing liquor to the voters under section 171-E. Special CEO Punjab Mrs. Usha R. Sharma said that Election Commission is keeping eye on the activities of candidates and is taking all possible measures to stop the flow of liquor across the state. She said that the CEO has received 2550 complaints of violations of model code of conduct till date. She said that taking note of the complaints received against Government employees indulging in poll campaigning, the CEO has transferred Head Mistress of Govt. High School Khadoor in Ludhiana and an employee of Health Department Ludhiana has also been shifted. Mrs. Sharma said that all arrangements have been made to conduct free and fair polls. She said that 20 cases of violence related to poll campaign or political rivalry have been registered across the state. As many as 8982 non-bailable warrants have been issued under section 107.
