Punjab: Payal town worships Ravan

The effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakaran and Meghnad were burnt in the country to mark the victory of good over evil but in Payal town of Ludhiana district in Punjab, the Ravan was worshipped by hundreds of people.
''
''According to an age-old tradition, the people of Payal town near Ludhiana did not perform Ravana Dahan on the festival of Dussehra today. Instead, they worshiped Ravana as per the rituals in the Ravana temple located there. This festival to worship Ravana started about ten days before Dussehra. It is said that the Dubey family of the area had built a temple here in the year 1835 in fulfilment of their wish and built a temple with the idol of Ravana. Today, the seventh generation of this family is carrying forward the tradition and apart from them, a large number of people also bow their heads before Ravana.
