Punjab not implementing Protection of Atrocities Act 1989 properly: Buta

National Commission for Scheduled Caste, Chairman Buta Singh has said that Punjab has not implemented Protection of Atrocities Act 1989 properly in the state. Addressing the media in Chandigarh he said of the 214 cases reported to the commission in past one year conviction was made only in one case while rest of the cases are pending.<br/><br/>He was in Chandigarh to hear two cases of atrocities. He summoned Punjab DGP and asked to submit a report within two weeks about these cases. He said that Haryana and Rajsathan are also two other states where caste based atrocities are on the higher side.
