With a motto to ‘Save Natural Resources-Bring Prosperity for All’, the two-day Kisan Mela began at Punjab Agriculture University (PAU), Ludhiana, yesterday. Addressing the inaugural function, the Vice Chancellor of the PAU, Dr. Manjit Singh Kang said that the motto gives a message to all that we should use the natural resources with much care to lead a happy life.<br/><br/>Dr. Kang said that the earlier two mottos-‘Save Water-Save Punjab’ and ‘Save Environment-Save Punjab’- of previous fairs had proved milestones. On this occasion three progressive farmers were honoured with Chief Minister’s Award.<br/><br/>The Station Director, All India Radio, Jalandhar, Mr. B.C. Panwar and a famous character of ‘Dehati Programme’ being broadcast from AIR, Jalandhar, Master Ji alias Avinash Bhakri were also honoured besides Jalandhar Doordarshan for conveying the messages of the PAU to farmers through the radio and television.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, the three-day ‘Pashu Palan Mela’ of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana was also inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Dr VK Taneja, yesterday.<br/><br/>The Mela is showcasing elite high yielding livestock of various breeds, books on Dairy Farming, Package of Practices for Livestock etc.
