In Punjab, to keep the prisoners away from social evils including drug addiction, Jail Deptt. is organising ‘Jail Olympics’ from March 1. It will have Basketball, Kabaddi, Athletics, Cricket, Volleyball, Wrestling and Tug-of-war.To begin with, these games will be inter-jail tournaments, which would later be elevated to inter-zone. The State jail authorities would send a proposal to Centre for getting permission to hold such tournament between zones.Disclosing this to AIR Jalandhar Correspondent, the DGP (Jails), Shashi Kant said that this is for the first time ever in Punjab that such a tournament for jail inmates will be organised. He, however, said that the place for the tournament is yet to be decided.
