Punjab Independence Day function held in Patiala

In Punjab, the state level Independence Day function was held at Patiala where the National Flag was unfurled by the Chief Minister, Prakash Singh Badal. After taking salute at an impressive parade , the Chief Minister called upon the people of the state to follow the footsteps of those great patriots whose acts of courage brought us freedom. Paying rich tributes to the martyrs, Chief Minister Badal said that no country can progress if it forgets the deeds of its freedom fighters.

34 personalities from different walks of life were honoured by the Chief Minister on this occasion. These include officers of National Disaster Response Force and Army whose teams helped in saving many lives during a factory collapse in Jalandhar in April last. The Independence day was also celebrated at Attari-Wagah Joint Check Post. The Inspector General, BSF, Punjab Frontier, Aditya Mishra hoisted the tri-colour. Brigadier Zahid Rana of Satluj Rangers greeted IG Mishra on this occasion.Sweets were distributed to Pakistan Rangers also.
