Punjab, Haryana and parts of Orissa in severe grip of cold wave

Punjab and Haryana are in the grip of intense cold. With the mercury dipping up to three notches below normal, cold conditions have intensified in both the states. In Punjab, Adampur near Jalandhar has remained the coldest town in the region with the minimum temperature recorded at 2.1 degree C. Amritsar recorded a minimum temperature of 3 degree C, down by one degree. Whereas, Ludhiana also shivered at 3.9 degrees C and Patiala recorded a minimum temperature of and 5.5 degree C. In Haryana, Narnaul with a minimum of 3.4 degree C remained the coldest town followed by Hissar at 4.2 degree C and Ambala, a minimum of 4.3 degree C. Karnal and Bhiwani both recorded 6.2 deg C. The Union Territory of Chandigarh also felt the cold as the minimum temperature recorded 5.1 degree C.Met Department says that fog and mist would continue to prevail at a few places in two states.Intense cold wave is sweeping across Orissa's Kandhmal district for the last one week paralysing normal life. The minimum temperature plummeted to 4.2 degree Celsius today. Normal life was severely affected in Daringbadi, Kotagarh, Tumudibandha, Balliguda, Raikia, Phulbani and Tikabali due to cold. The homeless people have become the worst victim of the intense cold. Some farmers say that vegetable cultivation and Rabi crops will be damaged if such a condition persists.
