The Punjab government today launched the biggest ever door-to-door campaign for early detection of cancer and its subsequent treatment. 45,000 personnel including ASHA workers, auxiliary nursing mid-wives (ANMs) and multi-purpose health workers are participating in it. Executive Director, State Health Systems Resource Centre, Punjab, Dr. Pyare Lal Garg told AIR Correspondent that several initiatives had been taken to ensure that no one should remain unchecked in the state.
These health workers would cover 54 lakh houses in the state to reach out to 2.73 crore population. 4500 supervisors would keep a check on daily basis to conclude this exercise in a month’s time. Those detected with Cancer symptoms would free treatment.
