Punjab Govt bans screening of film ‘Messenger of God’

Punjab Government has decided to stop with immediate effect the screening of the film Messenger of God in the state.

A government press release said that this decision has been taken in view of the reports of tensions surrounding its release in some parts of the country and in the larger and crucial interest of preserving peace and social harmony in the state.

This order to stop screening of film will remain in effect till further orders.

Meanwhile, in Haryana, various organizations continued to stage protests against controversial film “Messenger of God” featuring Dera Sirsa Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh.

On Saturday the protests are reported from Karnal, Bhiwani and few other places.

Demanding ban on film Haryana Sikh Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee Chief Jagdish Singh Jheenda said at Karnal, if the film was released, Sikhs will start demonstrations on road.

He questioned Dera Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Sing, whether he is a saint or artist.

He said that a saint never make films to earn money.

He said that if Dera chief has made film in the capacity of an artist, they would have no objection.

Hindu Mahasabha at Bhiwani also protested against the film saying it does not look graceful for a religious guru to dance and wear costumes like artists.

Chief Minister Manohar Lal, when asked whether government allow screening of film in Haryana on Saturday said that government will take decision according to the situation once the date of release of film is announced.

On Friday, Shiromani Akali Dal, Indian National Lok Daland had taken to the streets in Haryana, Punjab and Delhi protesting against the screening of the film.
