The Punjab Government is spending 1500 crore rupees for the welfare of Scheduled Castes and for their social security during this financial year. AIR Jalandhar Correspondent reports that the Principal Secretary of Welfare Department T.R. Sarangal has said that the government has released 40 crore rupees to give scholarships to children of SCs, whereas 35 crore rupees had been released to give scholarships to children of minority communities in Punjab. He said that 90 per cent of people are benefitted under schemes meant for SCs, minority communities. To raise the status of handicapped girls belonging to rural areas of the state, 30 lakh rupees has been released. Under this scheme, girls studying in 10th and Plus 2 to get money for purchasing books and uniform as attendance scholarship, every year.
