Punjab contaminated potable water case: 54 patients discharged

In Punjab, 54 out of 83 persons who fell ill after consuming contaminated potable water in Shamshabad village of Noormehal in Jalandhar Distt., yesterday, have been discharged from various civil hospitals after their health stabilizes. Rest of them are still admitted in Civil Hospitals of Jalandhar and Nakodar and are under going treatment free of cost. Twenty six of the total affected were children. However, an 11 years old girl had died due to gastroentrities.<br/><br/>According to Distt. Epidimologist, Jalandhar, Dr T.P. Singh, people other than these 83, who complained about some gastro problem were also medically examined. He said health officials have collected water samples from the locality and directed the villagers not to use water of public health pipe lines. Water tankers have been provided for drinking water. Medical teams with ambulances have been stationed at Noormahal Civil Hospital. Chlorine tablets have been distributed in the affected areas.
