The Punjab Congress has urged the State Govt. to immediately roll back the hike made in electricity duty from 10 to 13 percent and give relief not only to laymen but also to industries.

The most affected industries are power intensive industries of induction furnaces, rolling mills, mini steel plants and scores of textile units.

Congress leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira has said in Jalandhar that this increase of 3 percent in electricity would act like a last nail in the coffin of already dilapidated industry making it highly impossible to compete with neighboring states like Himachal Pradesh, J&K, Uttarakhand etc.

He said that as already many industrial houses have been shifted to other states due to power crisis and less concessions in Punjab, the new hike in power tariff would might force some other major industries also to settle out of Punjab.

This will also mean increase in unemployment as industry offers great deal of employment in the state.
