Amidst playing of band tunes of National song ‘Sare Jahan Se Achha, Hindustan Hamara’, with utmost gaiety and enthusiasm, Punjab Chief Ministe Parkash Singh Badal on Sunday inaugurated the Memorial of the great patriot, General Sham Singh Attariwala, a distinguished leading spirit of Sher-e- Punjab Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s army, at Naraingarh Chowk in Municipal limits of this historic city. This memorial with focused attraction of statue of General Sham Singh Attariwala on horse back has been set up at a cost of about Rs. 3.75 cores.<br/><br/>Addressing the ceremony, Punjab Chief Minister S. Parkash Singh Badal called upon the present and future generations especially youth to imbibe the values and high standards of valour and gallantry set by General Sham Singh Attariwala. Paying rich tribute to the great stalwart of freedom movement, Badal said that Sham Singh Attariwala had made significant contribution for strengthening the Kingdom of Maharaja Ranjit Singh and fighting against the British Army for preserving and promoting the thought of Indianness and National spirit. He said that the countrymen owe a great debt to the General and the present scenario of the Great India is due to his pioneering efforts and love for the country and its people. Badal announced that the Punjab Government will organize martyrdom of the Great General as State level function every year on February 10 to propagate the legacy and saga of his bravery. He said that he will take up the issue of naming Attari Railway Station and the proposed four-lane National Highway on the name of General Sham Singh Attariwala with the Government of India as requested by the Minister Mr. Gulzar Singh Ranike, the elected Assembly representative of the area.
