Punjab CM calls for meeting with leaders of protesting farmers

To work out a solution to the demands of protesting farmers in Punjab, a meeting between the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and farmers has been arranged on Monday evening. <br/><br/>Confirming the development, Member of Parliament, Prem Singh Chandumajra, who has initiated to break the deadlock, told AIR Jalandhar correspondent that he has appealed to farmers' organizations to sit and workout a solution to their demands. <br/><br/>Meanwhile, the rail-roko agitation is continuing on the fourth day also affecting over 250 trains across Punjab including Delhi-Lahore Samjhauta Express.<br/><br/>However, Sukhdev Singh Kokri, General Secretary of Bhartiya Kissan Union (Ekta-Ugrahan) told AIR that a meeting of all the eight farmer organisations has been called today evening to decide the next plan of action.<br/><br/>Farmers have derailed the rail traffic in Punjab since Wednesday to get their demands fulfilled. These include Rs. 40 thousand per acre relief for losses to cotton growers due to whitefly attack against the compensation announced at the rate of Rs. 8000 per acre by the state government. Higher MSP for Basmati than what government has announced and Rs. 5 lakh financial assistance to the families of those farmers who had committed suicide due to ongoing crisis.
