With two persons from Punjab killed in Australia within a week, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Wednesday met the Australian High Commissioner to India Mr Peter Varghese in New Delhi to demand quick and effective response to stop the racist attacks.<br/><br/>Mr Badal's son Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal, who is the Deputy Chief Minister, led a delegation of senior Akali leaders to the High Commission and presented a memorandum which expressed concern over the series of attacks in Australia. Thememorandum said there is a widespread feeling in the minds of the people in Punjab that the authorities in Australia are not doing elements, which had emboldened the latter to step up their heinous crimes against innocent immigrants.<br/><br/>The High Commissioner, Mr Varghese assured the delegation that he would take up the matter with his government with "utmost urgency." He said the Australian government was fully alive to the Indian concerns, especially those of the people of Punjab.
