Punjab Chief Electoral Officer issues guidelines of Model Code of Conduct

The Chief Electoral Officer of Punjab has issued detailed guidelines of Model Code of Conduct which come into force immediately after the announcement of the poll schedule for Assembly elections.Punjab will go to polls in a single phase on the 30th of January. A spokesperson for the Chief Electoral Officer said in Chandigarh that the ministers should not combine their official visit with electioneering work and should also not make use of their official machinery and personnel during the elections.He said the government transport including official air-crafts, vehicles, machinery and personnel should not be used for furtherance of the interest of the party in power. The spokesperson said public places such as grounds for holding election meetings and use of helipads for air-flights in connection with elections should not be monopolised by the party in power. Other parties and candidates should be allowed to use such places and facilities on the same terms and conditions.
