Punjab and Haryana High Court has converted the death sentence of prime accused Jagtar Singh from death sentence to life imprisonment in former Chief Minister of Punjab Beant Singh’s murder case. High Court has stayed the death sentence of a co-accused Balwant Singh. Another co-accused is also to spend life imprisonment. Other three accused in the conspiracy of murder have also been sentenced to life imprisonment. The then Chief Minister of Punjab Beant Singh was assassinated in a bomb explosion outside the Punjab Secretariat on August 31st 1995.
