Punjab recorded about 73 percent polling in all the 13 Lok Sabha seats in the state. Today's turnover surpasses the earlier high of 70.1 percent recorded in 2009 Lok Sabha Elections.
Briefing the media at Chandigarh Punjab, CEO Mr. V.K. Singh said that voting were still continuing at various polling locations with people standing in queues at 6:00 PM. He said that enthusiastic polling was witnessed in Sangrur, Patiala and Bathinda whereas moderate polling was witnessed in Hoshiarpur and Gurdaspur.
CEO said that 4 FIRs for skirmishes were registered. Giving the details of incidents, he said that two persons have been arrested and FIR has been registered against guilty in Patiala Rural for damaging the EVM unit at a polling station.
Officials said some Akali Dal workers allegedly vandalized the control unit of EVM. The CEO said that polling was continued with new machine and efforts would be made to retrieve data from old machine. He said that at Rasoolpur village of Patiala Aam Adami Party candidate Dharamvir Gandhi was attacked by some unidentified youth owing allegiance to SAD-BJP Akali Dal. Police has registered an FIR in this matter.
Ten persons were injured in a clash between Akali Dal and Congress workers at Sangatpura village in Moga district. Officials said that three workers from Aam Aadmi Party sustained injuries after a brawl between them and Akalis at Devigarh village in Patiala Lok Sabha constituency.
