Pulwama district of South Kashmir has distinction of producing world's best safron in Pampore – a place about 16 kilometres from summer capital Srinagar. More than ten thousand families of 250 villages are associated with this trade, directly or indirectly and nearly 85 per cent families are associated with its cultivation.<br/>
