Pulse to be imported from Burma, Canada & African countries: Nirmala Sitharaman

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has said that one lakh tonnes pulses will be imported from Burma, Canada and African countries and lentil will be available in markets soon to keep a lid on rising prices. Highlighting the achievements of the NDA government at Bilaspur in Shimla yesterday, Mrs Sitharaman said, the Government is also encouraging farmers to increase production of pulses.

She said, government has decided to ban import of milk and milk products from China, but the import of other products cannot be banned completely due to conditions imposed by the World Trade Organisation. On rising prices of fruits and vegetables, the Minister
said the problem lies in the fact that there are no agri marketing yards, growers are not getting genuine prices for their produce, which is not reaching the areas where demand is more.
