Pulse polio day observed

The Pulse Polio Day is being observed in some states, including Delhi today. Delhi government has set up 8,200 booths to administer polio drops to 25 lakh children upto five years of age.

These booths have been set up at all hospitals, health centres, certain schools, bus terminus, metro stations, railway stations, airport, mother dairies, DMS booths and religious places.

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said, the national capital has virtually become polio- free as no case of polio has been reported in Delhi since 2010. She said, polio drops are being administered in Delhi as a precautionary measure.

The country is also on the threshold of becoming polio-free as only one case was reported during 2011. No case of polio has been reported during 2012 so far.
