In Puducherry, the 12 hour dawn to dusk bandh called by some political parties and organizations, passed off peacefully with no major untoward incident reported. Normal life remained largely unaffected, while shops and business establishments in the business hub of the town, remained shut. Government offices and banks functioned as usual. A number of schools were closed. Over 60 people including a congress MLA, Laxminaryanan and PMK state Secretary, Anantharaman, were arrested when they attempted to picket in front of new bus stand.The bandh call was given to protest against regional reservation to students of the outlying areas of Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam.
