In Puducherry, with all major political parties releasing their first list of candidates, it looks that the union territory will witness a multi cornered contest for the 30 member assembly.The ruling congress which has allotted 10 seats to its principal ally the DMK, on Thursday announced the first list of 17 candidates to face the polls scheduled for the 13th of next month. The party is yet to announce candidates for remaining three constituencies. Chief Minister Mr. Vaithalingam , his ministerial colleagues , speaker of the assembly , several former ministers and prominent opposition leaders filed their nominations on Thursday. The All India NR congress also announced the first list of 11 candidates. The former Chief Minister Mr. N. Rangaswamy who heads the party will contest from Indira Nagar constituency. Replying to a question on talks with AIDMK Mr. Rangaswamy said since there is time till Saturday for filing of nominations, talks are still on.
