In Puducherry, Chief Minister N. Rangaswamy who also holds the finance portfolio, presented a tax free budget with focus on developing infrastructure and promoting tourism.Presenting the budget for the current fiscal in the assembly today, Mr Rangaswamy announced a series of welfare programmes to benefit the cross section of society including farmers.Referring to the havoc caused by Cyclone Thane which lashed the union territory in December last, the Chief Minister said, an action plan on greening Puducherry will be implemented and said that three lakh saplings will be planted to restore the green cover.Pointing out that the Gross State Domestic Product from agriculture has come down drastically from 30 per cent in the eighties to the present 5 per cent, Mr Rangaswamy said, steps will be taken to achieve a balanced and sustainable growth with a more diversified agriculture base.Earlier, the opposition AIADMK staged a walk-out alleging that the ruling party had failed in implementing any of the announcements made in the previous budget.
