Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangaswamy on Friday announced a compensation of Rs. 25,000 each to the totally damaged houses due to the incessant rains in the Union Territory.<br />'' <br />'' While addressing the media the Chief Minister said that in Puducherry and Karaikal about 1,000 hectares of paddy crops were damaged and a compensation of Rs. 20,000 per hectare will be given to the farmers.<br />'' <br />'' Further the Chief Minister announced an assistance of Rs.5000 each to the registered construction workers and to the fishermen whose livelyhood was affected due to the recent rainfall.<br />'' <br />'' <br />'' A sum of Rs.10,000 will be provided if a cow is perished and Rs.5000 for a goat he added.<br />'' <br />'' Mr. Rangaswamy said Puducherry received an average rainfall of 184.1 cm during this year and out of 84  lakes in Puducherry 56 were filled with full capacity.<br />'' <br />'' Mr. Rangaswamy said that steps would be taken to construct a check dam across Sankarabharani river at a cost of Rs.16 crore.<br />''<br />''He concluded that  Rs.86 crore had been allocated to repair the damaged roads after the rainfall and the Union government would be approached for relief after finallising the damages.
