Budget session of the Puducherry Assembly begins today with the customary address by Lieutenant Governor Iqbal Singh. This is the first session of the Assembly after the Rangaswamy led NR Congress came to power. The Assembly election were held in April this year. Lt. Governor will outline the policies and programmes to be implemented by the territorial administration. AIR correspondent reports that the sacking of over 4,000 daily-wage employees, working in public sector undertakings, law and order are some of the issues likely to be raised by the opposition. In a related development, AIADMK has demanded that the Speaker ensure that budget session should be held for at least for 20 days. Meanwhile, Congress party has named former Chief Minister Mr. Vaithilingam as leader of the Congress legislative party.
