In Puducherry, the entire Opposition members comprising Congress, DMK and AIADMK were evicted from the House following their refusal to heed the advice of the Speaker to give up their Dharna protesting against the omissions and commissions of the Government. As soon as the Lieutenant Governor Dr.Iqbal Singh began his customary address, the entire Opposition trooped into the well of the House demanding reinstatement of retrenched part-time Government servants, implementation of various schemes as promised in the previous budget. As the Opposition members refused to heed the Speaker’s repeated requests to resume their seat, he ordered their eviction.The Lieutenant Governor, Dr. Iqbal Singh, in his address, detailed the steps taken by the Government to provide relief to Thane cyclone victims and thanked the Centre for its generous timely assistance. He said the Union Territory Government has prepared a vision document which would be the road map for the 12th Five Year Plan. Steps are being taken for bringing down the fiscal deficit and revenue deficit, he added. In order to strengthen the Public Distribution System in the Union Territory, Dr. Iqbal Singh said all PDS shops will be installed General Pocket Radio service based Point of sale devices.Puducherry will be made a hut-less and slum-free within next couple of years, he said.
